Jobs in Fresno are getting harder to find. Many companies like Circuit City are closing the doors and putting a lot of Fresno people out of work. When people in Fresno get laid off, most of the start looking for work in the same industry. Since Circuit City closed their Fresno stores, many people in sales, management and technology are looking jobs.

If you’re one of those unfortunate people looking for Fresno technology jobs, don’t lose heart. While finding a job can be difficult, it’s not impossible. Take this advice, start looking and don’t give up. Make the most of every opportunity and every interview. Tailor your resume to fit the technology sector that you’re applying for and be flexible.

You’re dream technology job in Fresno may not be available. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t a job that will pay your bills while trying to find that high paying tech job.

There will always be people moving out of the area and people retiring. When those jobs open up, make sure you apply quickly. Keep an eye on the Fresno Bee for jobs and online. Craigslist and right here at Jagdu you can find jobs not listed anywhere else.

When you searched online and applied for the jobs you’re interested in, start networking. Call friends, family, former coworkers and associates and let them all know that you’re looking for a job. You never know when someone might have an opening at their job or they might hear of someone who is looking for a job that you just fit perfectly!

Whew. I was beginning to think I was the only one. The only nerd in Fresno. I guess I’m not alone after all…

John Zacharias over at Fresnofamous.com revealed recently that he is also addicted to Blizzards wildly popular MMORPG World of Warcraft – and he’s higher level than I am (which puts him slightly higher on the nerd-o-meter)!

Man…how many times have I tried to quit this game? Probably five or ten at least. I’ll make it for a couple of months, then one of my friends will start playing again and *poof* I’m back in Azeroth, pushing my level 54 Blood Elf Paladin closer to that ultimate level 70 goal. In fact, it’s World of Warcraft that has kept me from posting here on Jagdu for the last couple of days. That’s no good, people!

I searched around a bit and apparently there isn’t a Fresno based WoW guild out there anywhere. I wonder why that is? I can think of few things more frightening than a stampeding horde of Fresno Orcs, thirsty for some wimpy Clovis Alliance blood.

Maybe someone should set that up. Hmmmmm…..

Till next time – stay nerdy.

In other news, Apple has once again showed that they don’t care much for their fans by killing wildly popular blog ThinkSecret. I don’t know if this is part of some ridiculous marketing angle, but suing and forcing a fansite to shut down usually isn’t in the best interest of any company. Portfolio has some more notes on forcing fans to shutdown sites.

Marshall Kirkpatrick hits the nail on the head about disclosing that anonymous tipster, ”

ThinkSecret’s main news sources were anonymous tipsters who either called or emailed a tip line and gave the latest dirt on Apple, sometimes including pictures and news that has yet to be released. Most people call this buzz, and it’s a good thing.

AppleGazette has a newsy piece (opinionless) about the ThinkSecret.com shutdown. Ron Schoene also speculates about ThinkSecret getting paid off to settle the lawsuit out of court. I think that is truly what happened. Why else would Nick say he was happy about the way things turned out?

However, Apple doesn’t want people talking about their products, at least not until they tell you that you can.

Kinda reminds me of Microsoft back in 1999 when they ruled the world. Look at them now.

If you’re looking for an easy and quick way to get serial numbers off of a lot of Mac (Apple) computers, then using Apple Remote Desktop is the way to go! Once the computers are turned on, getting the serial numbers for 100+ machines is very fast and easy and only takes about 5 minutes.

Here is how you do it.

1. Start Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) software to get serial numbers.

2. Highlight the computers that you need to get the serial number for.

3. At the top menu click “Report” then “System Overview”.

4. Uncheck all boxes. Check “Serial Number” under “Computer”.

5. IMPORTANT – Click “Rebuild Data for this report”. If you don’t select that, you usually won’t get the correct serial number and will get another different, yet similar, serial looking number.

6. The serial numbers will pop up by computer name, the window is usually automatically hidden behind the main ARD window.

7. Click “Export”.

There you go, simple and plain way to get serial numbers from Mac computers in bulk!

NOTE: I have tried this in Tiger and Panther. I don’t know for sure that it works in Leopard but would guess that it does. Make sure your ARD machine and the client machines have the latest ARD Update 3.2.1 in order to get correct serial numbers.

If you’re trying find a serial number on your Promethean Board, or ActivBoard, then all you have to do is check two different places. The location of your serial number depends on the age of your Promethean board (that connects to the ActivStudio and ActivPrimary software). Older boards have the serial number on a sticker near the module on the top left side of the board. You can usually see the number without taking the Promethean board off the wall.

How do I find my Promethean Board serial number?

If your Promethean board is newer (bluetooth equipped) then you’ll see a little plastic tag on the back of the Promethian board that has the serial number on it. The tag is on the bottom left side of the board and will pull out so you can see it without taking the board off the wall.
