I just got around to watching Cloverfield. I picked it up at a Fresno Blockbuster (I do love my Total Access) and watched it the same night. I watched the beginning with interest and tried all throughout the movie to find out what this crazy Manhattan wrecking monster was or if it had any similarities to creatures we currently know.

After watching the entire movie (and being disappointed at the ending), I decided to watch a few of the extras to see what they said about the monster in Cloverfield.

The guy who designed the monster said that it was a baby. How were we supposed to know it was a baby? It was eating people and knocking over buildings, it wasn’t playing or having a good time nor did it growl in a baby voice.

Then the guy said the Cloverfield monster was scared. Scared!?!? How am I supposed to interpret a 350 foot tall monster eating people and destroying a city? It seems like this monster was on the attack. After all, it never tried to run, it was attacking, especially in the helicopter scene where it jumps out of the mist and smoke to attack a helicopter that was fleeing the scene. I would assume a scared monster would be heading back to the ocean, where it came from.

Lastly, the monster was horribly designed. It was both too boring and too far fetched in the design and qualities. It had typical horror movie qualities like the little babies that jumped off. Whenever they bit someone, another baby jumped out. Typical horror movies have some sort of continuation to the plot so that just incase someone kills the main monster, there are thousands more.

Like typical horror movies, the monster didn’t look real at all. It came out of the ocean right? Why didn’t the cloverfield monster have any kind of swimming abilities? Arms aren’t great for swimming, but tails and fins are. Oh yeah, it didn’t have a tail or fins. It did have some weird head gills though. I don’t mind monsters that don’t look real, but if the point of the movie is to be a realistic type fantasy like King Kong, Big Foot, or Godzilla, make the thing resemble something viewers would understand.

The final thing that struck me as ridiculous is that JJ Abrams said something about how the Japanese always have their monster, Godzilla. He wanted the Cloverfield monster to be the USA monster. Sorry dude, your monster sucks worse than the ending! Please stick to Lost and drop the Cloverfield sequel already. This one was bad enough.

Breaking News – It appears that there has been an explosion in the 45-story building that houses both Fox News an the NY Post. After several news updates from Fox News and Gawker Media it appears that the explosion was caused by oxidizers reacting with acid. The explosion does not seem to have any deliberate or terrorist indicators and appears to have started in the mechanics room on the 45th floor. Why the put the mechanics up that high is unknown at this time.

Reports are still coming in about the explosion and we hope to have more soon.

UPDATE: Floors 40 through 45 were said to have been evacuated. Fox News is still broadcasting from the lower floors and it appears that one man has been harmed in the explosion, but is in stable condition.

If you don’t know the story, Will Smith, plays the last man on earth. Earth was wiped out due to a vampire plague and only Will Smith survives unharmed. Now the zombies and vampires are out to get him and he has a slew of awesome weapons fighting them off, and fighting off animals like bears and lions.

Well, Popular Mechanics has a team investigating the claim, for what reason, I don’t know. PM asserts, “Viruses don’t mutate and become airborne. They typically fall into a couple of different categories-respiratory, STDs and vector-borne like insects, ticks and mosquitoes. They don’t change from tick-borne to pneumonic. They just don’t do that.”

Fine, spoil sports. Next you’ll be telling us that every other Will Smith Sci-Fi isn’t possible either right? Speaking of Will smith and science fiction movies, is this guy an alien or what? He does more scifi (and poker playing) than I know what to do with.

I, Robot (2004)

Men in Black (1997)

Men in Black II (2002)

Wild Wild West (1999)

Independence Day (1996)

“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” (1990-1996) TV
Ok, Fresh Prince is a stretch, but you know something was “alien” about DJ Jazzy Jeff. That guy was a little off.

Jamie Gadette obviously learned the hard way. Now people want her to pay for those horrible comments with her life.

Now it’s Rob’s turn. Dare and say that Josh Groban is a nice guy who has horrible music? Ready for the backlash? In less than 10 days, Rob had over 80 comments, most of them blasting him for criticizing Josh Groban when he said, “Nice guy, bad music.” Rob’s opinion apparently has no place in his blog.

Then again, a flood of traffic, 80 comments all for a 40 word post is not too shabby. Maybe I should find a celebrity that is a decent singer with a huge fan base and mention that he is slightly overweight…
