Astrit at DNSEO has a great short writeup about the new Wordpress 2.5 release. While I won’t be upgrading any time soon, I am excited about upgrading.
I won’t be upgrading for two reasons, themes and plugins. I don’t know what has changed, but I don’t want to risk my theme being destroyed by the new version. This is a free theme, but I’ve done some customization and don’t want to have to find a new theme that works with wordpress 2.5 just because of some new fancy features.
Then there are the plugins. The wordpress team says the plugins should work because most of the code that handles plugins hasn’t changed. But then again I’ve heard that before then half my plugins didn’t work. For me it’s just not worth the added trouble. When there are new versions of all of my plugins I’ll switch. That will probably be in the next 2 months.
What about you, are you going to upgrade to Wordpress 2.5?

1Hi Jaqdu, I upgraded all my sites without any problems, all the themes and plugins worked OK and each site took no more than 5 minutes to do. I even had vistors while the upgrade was taking place with no negative effect. There is a step by step guide on my site if you want to give it a try.
