If you’re an experienced English teacher in Fresno, you should have no trouble getting a job as a teacher. If you lack experience and just received your teaching credential, finding a teaching job might be a little more difficult for you. In order to find a full time English teacher job, you’re going to have to be a little flexible. The highly desirable schools are usually filled by teachers with experience and seniority in Fresno Unified School District.
If you want to find an English teaching job, start by calling the Human Resources department. They will be able to give you an idea on where to start. Often times they’ll want you to submit a resume online, or fill out an application in the office. This is always a good place to start. You can also start by getting your name on the substitute teacher list. That will help you connect and network with principals who have the power to hire new teachers (when they have an opening). When you begin substitute teaching, make sure and only accept English teacher jobs at a school you would like to teach at. There is no since in subbing for a kindergarten class when you have a single subject English degree and want to teach high school English.
If you get your foot in the door with a few different principals, your odds of getting hired full time for an English teacher job are much better than if you don’t know anyone and haven’t met or subbed for those principals. Make sure that when you do substitute teach at they’re school that you do a good job and make some friends. You never know who the principal plays poker with every Saturday!
Let me know if you’re looking for an English teacher job in Fresno and I’ll see if I can help!

1What about ESL teaching jobs? Are they prevalent in the Fresno area?
